Grandparents Raising Grandchildren’s biennial two-day training Summits provide a unique opportunity to come together in a powerful learning environment in which topical issues such as the needs of vulnerable children and their grandparent and kin caregivers, child and adolescent development, positive strategies for parenting children affected by neglect and abuse, parenting teens, dealing with the impact of alcohol, drugs and social media, as well as legal and financial issues and much more are addressed.
These events are aimed at bringing together grandparent and whanau caregivers, support coordinators and field officers with experts in child psychology and welfare, and representatives of government and NGOs who are all involved at the coal-face of child welfare; setting policy, legislative changes, and working with vulnerable children and their families.
Feedback from these events highlight the benefits to grandparent and whanau caregivers and the difference it makes to their lives.
