Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust New Zealand (“GRG”) is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information and complying with the Privacy Act 2020. The below privacy statement outlines our approach to handling your personal information and your rights with regards to your personal information.
To be eligible for our services and attend our events / courses, you will be required to share some personal information about yourself with us. Personal information could be any information that identifies you, or by which your identity can discovered.
GRG will collect personal information from you when you:
- first become a member and complete our membership registration form
- make use of our update membership form
- register for our events / courses
- contact us via website / Facebook / telephone / in person
- engage with our local Support Groups
The type of personal information we may collect from you includes:
- your name
- your contact information
- your ethnicity
- your gender
- your partner
- your role as a caregiver
- children in your care
- interactions with us e.g. speaking with our advocates / local Support Group Coordinators (in the form of case notes)
We collect your personal information to provide you with services which may include:
- contacting you about our services
- enabling you to participate in events, courses / local support groups
- sending you relevant information via email or online (including Facebook) with details about our events / courses, information about third party providers, or other information that may be of interest to you
- communicating with third party providers on your behalf (with your known consent)
- other purposes we will make known to you as relevant at the time of collection
GRG will collect this information directly from you unless working with a third-party provider (with your known consent) and is only collected when necessary to carry out the above services.
Providing your personal information to GRG is optional however you may not be able to access our services or receive advocacy assistance if you choose not to share your personal information relevant to that service.
We may sometimes need to share some of your personal information to others. By using our services, you agree that we may share some of your personal information to the extent necessary to achieve our purposes for collecting your personal information. This may include with:
- GRG employees
- Support Group Coordinators (with your known consent)
- A third party outside of GRG who is contracted to us in order to provide a particular service to us e.g. our SALT course
- Third parties we believe in good faith that we are required to do so by law
I no longer wish to receive information from GRG
You can contact us at any time to unsubscribe or cancel your membership with us and we will update your account as soon as possible. Please note that in doing so we will not be able to continue providing services to you.
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to request a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to have that information corrected / updated if you think something is incorrect. You can update your personal information with us using our update membership form on our website. We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the Privacy Act. This Privacy Statement was last updated in April 2025
